~Updates 2007~

Tuesday 2nd January 12.45pm, John and I arrive at the Wesley Fetal Medicine Unit for our 19 week anomaly scan.

We were given some paperwork to fill in and hand back, and didn't wait long before we were lead to the scanning room, and spent some time with the Sonographer going through our history with Jessica.

The Sonograher spent some time prodding and pocking, and checking the baby's position and doing his normal measuring and anomaly checks.

Then he switched the scanning machine into 4D mode! It was amazing, to see Our Baby for the first time in 4D..
We could see that the baby was in the Transverse Position ( Sideways ) Not quite sure if that's  Normal ? But nothing was mentioned so assumed it was all ok!
We then spent the next 10/15 mins just watching the screen, as Our Baby was wriggling around and moving none stop!  I was  also feeling the constant movements it was making..

At the end of the scan we were told that everything appeared " NORMAL! " especially the heart," Best one of the day " he said!
We were so happy to hear this news that I shed a few tears and John had a huge grin on his face.

After, Dr Frank Carmody came in to re-scan baby, he also told us that everything looked normal and we had a perfectly healthy baby, which was important for us to hear this!

After that we both went off with our very " Good " results and a DVD of " PIP " in 4D Mode.

We then went to Mt.Cootha for a very yummy lunch, what a fabulous day!!

I am now nearly 26 Weeks and time is flyinggggggggggggg by so fast, and before we know it baby will be here!

The next test is for Diabetes in 2  weeks time, at which I have to drink that awful  sugary drink, along with a Blood Test..I'm sure all will be fine?

Baby at the moment is in the " Breech " Position ( Feet First ) so hopefully it will turn it's self into the normal Head Down Position ready for birth !!!! AAAAARRRRHHHHH  that's a scarey thought, but a much looked forward too day!

Will Update after I have my next lot of tests done, and promise that this time it will be ON TIME!

Take care

Haven't been feeling to well over the past few weeks, feel very out of breath with back pain and finding it difficult to walk some days without having to keep stopping for breath.. Don't remember it being like this before?
My legs, arms and all over body seems very swollen, think i might make an appointment to see my Obstetrician in the next few days just to check me out.

13th April ~

Got an appointment today to see my OB, feel a bit better today, but still not getting to much sleep cause of the discomfort i am feeling.

1pm.. I am the dr's and am chatting away to another lady in the waiting room,  Her name is Lisa, she has only got a few days left to go, she is due the 17th April and booked in for a ceasar, hope that all goes well with her new bubs.

John and I get called in to see peter our OB, and i tell him that i haven't been feeling the best over the past few weeks, he takes my blood pressure and assures me that all is well.

He then does his routine ultrasound and notices that i am have a little to much Amniotic Fluid and tells us that he would like us to go to the medical center at the Wesley Hospital for another Ultrasound to get double checked to make sure that baby is ok.

Of course me being me goes into panic mode and thinks all kinds of things! Peter tells us both that baby is well and healthy and don't worry! ( RIGHT )

Cathy, Peters assistant makes us an appointment for that afternoon, in fact we were to go straight away, they would wait for us at the clinic.

The drive there seems to never end, but we finally arrive and are seen immediately by Carol, who has done Ultrasounds on me before and knows our history.
Straight away she puts us at ease and shows us into the Ultrasound room, put's jelly onto my tummy and baby comes up on the screen, much bigger than last time we saw it and still just as amazing to see..

She tells us that yes i do have a lot of Amniotic Fluid, the safe amount should be between 7/8 Ltrs and I had 10Ltrs!!!!!!

No wonder I was feeling so uncomfortable..

She said that she was surprised that I hadn't had the baby already with the amount of fluid i had there, and that my bag of water was in fact bulging!  The condition is called HYDRA AMNIOS

Carol told us that she would like to see us again on Tuesday the 17th April  for a rescan to make sure that baby was still ok and under no stress..

Appointment made, we were on our way home and we were no longer worried!

The weekend has been really relaxing and I have tried to catch up on my sleep, still finding it extremely uncomfortable, but make the use of heaps of pillows to make it more comfortable.

John has been working over the weekend but has Tuesday off to take me to my appointment for my rescan..

Monday 16th April..

Having my hair recoloured & cut today, badly in need of a make over! Why does a good hair cut always make you feel so much better?

Fiona turns up about 4pm ( Hairdresser ) She is such a good friend and we always have a good laugh and a yack whilst she is here.. She always stays for dinner/Lunch depending on what time she arrives as my hair takes hours to do!

Hair is finally finished around 7pm, thank god for that! my back is killing me and my legs seem to be getting bigger by the second! Think I'll have an early night tonight, bushed!

I go to the bathroom just to check my hair is ok, next thing I hear is

HAPPY BABY SHOWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I turn around and there standing in the middle of my bedroom are family & friends armed with beautifully wrapped gifts for our baby,  and all happily smiling and giggling..what a surprise alright!!!

The evening was filled with so much fun, I don't know how John managed to keep that one secret?

I finally collapsed into bed around bout 10.30pm

17 April 2007

I had a really uncomfortable night, tossing and turning trying to get comfy. I had Braxton hicks contractions for most of the night ( Or so I thought ) and terrible heart burn!

When i got out of bed in the morning and went to the bathroom I noticed that my Mucous plug had come away! I mentioned this to John who thought that I should ring our OB. I on the other hand thought not as I was feeling ok and all contractions had stopped!

And anyway I had an appointment to have another scan today for my excess fluid, John still not convinced told me to ring the clinic which I did grudgingly  ~

I explained to our OB's secretary what was happening and she said she would speak with Peter and ring me back, 5 minutes later she rang to say that I was to go down to the Wesley Hospital to be monitored and to take my hospital bag just in case I needed it, I which I replied I wouldn't! ( haha famous last words! )

I took my time getting to the hospital, having my breakfast and cup of tea ( well I did feel fine )

After about an hour off we headed in the direction of the Wesley Maternity Hospital. When we got there I left my hospital bag in the boot of the car, poo pooing the idea that I would need it!

We was greeted by a really lovely nurse who knew that I was coming in to be monitored and knew of the condition I had. She hooked me up to the monitor after a brief chat and note taking and left us for about 5 mins and returned to see that I was still having contractions every couple of mins, and I have to say I did feel them this time! She adjusted the monitor belt cause bubs kept on moving about and sat with us for the next 10 minutes in which my contractions were becoming painful. She said that she was going to ring Peter and then get a nurse from labour ward to do an internal check. John looked at me as if to say " I told you so "

The nurse from labour ward came and checked me and said that I was 2/3 centimetres dilated and in early stages of labour! The other nurse said she was going to ring Peter yet again to let him know what was happening.

Less than 5 minutes later she came back with another nurse to say that I was being prepared for an emergency section there and then! To say I was shocked is an understatement!!! I wasn't ready for it, my hair wasn't done and no lippy on! Oh my god what was a girl supposed to do? Haha i just hadn't prepared for this, baby wasn't due for another 6 weeks! AND I had left my bag in the car!

My OB was on his way down, in the meantime I had a shower and discussed my spinal block with the dr, who kindly let me use gas and air whilst the spinal was being put in to make me feel more relaxed.

I was taken to theatre and prepped, John went off to put on his " Blues " and then came back to theatre and sat down next to me.Then Peter showed up and the ceasar was underway!

At 11.44am Katie Marie was born weighing 5lb 9oz
